The 38th Handball Festival in Mittweida, organized by TSV Fortschritt Mittweida, was once again a complete success. A total of 17 teams from Saxony, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and the twin town of Ceska Lipa took part. The preliminary matches were played on Saturday, but the weather did not cooperate and the last six matches had to be postponed until Sunday.
On Sunday, the handball players started at nine o’clock with a shortened playing time in order to complete the remaining preliminary round matches. The placement matches could then take place as planned. After 51 games, the winners were determined: both victories went to Chemnitz. Patrick Tagala from the Ronny family was named best player and Vaclav Vodrazka from Ceska Lipa best goalkeeper.
The diversity of the participants was highlighted by our roll-ups: 17 teams from three federal states and one partner city, represented by men’s and women’s teams. The values of sport – strength, diversity, partnership and responsibility – were emphasized and seen as key to the success of team sport.
